Childproofing Sliding Doors 101
If you have small children or pets in your home, childproofing is an important task you need to do. Through childproofing the different areas, furniture and appliances in your home, you would not only be able to ensure the safety of your children and your pets but you would also prevent the structure, furniture and appliances in your home from getting broken or damaged.
One of the most important parts of your home which should not forget to childproof would be your doors, particularly your sliding doors. This is primarily because sliding doors may be a little easier to open and close compared to other types of doors. Additionally, because sliding doors are often made with glass, small children and pets can easily run into them, thinking that they are open. Here are some of the things you can do to childproof the sliding doors in your home.
First off, you need to look for a type of lock which is specifically made for securing sliding doors. Most locks that come with sliding doors can easily be opened even by toddlers so adding another lock system that is more sophisticated would be able to prevent them from being opened easily. These secondary lock systems can also be installed at a height that would be hard for children to reach. Additionally, installing a secondary lock system can also make your home more secure from intruders and burglars.
You can also purchase a childproofing device that can be installed on sliding doors. These can be purchased from most baby stores or hardware stores and can be quickly set up to prevent doors from being slid easily.
To prevent your children and your pets from running right into the glass of your wardrobe sliding doors, you can also buy decals or window stickers that you can stick on to your sliding glass doors.
You can also install treatments such as curtains or blinds to keep sliding doors out of view and prevent children and pets from being interested in playing with them.
Through using one or several of these methods, you should be able to childproof your sliding doors properly, preventing any accidental injuries to your pets and children and damages to your doors.
