How to Create a Professional Home Office
Working from home is the dream of many, but fostering the most professional, efficient atmosphere can sometimes be rather tricky, particularly in a shared/family home.
Boundaries
If there’s one thing every person working from home agrees on, it is that boundaries are the only way to guarantee a proficient, functioning working environment. This could mean anything from investing in a babysitter 3-6PM to the simple “I’m not here if my office door is closed” instruction. In very busy households, it could be advantageous to invest in a garden office or extension space.
Storage
For paperwork/project intensive home offices, specialist heavy duty shelving from an expert company like BiGDUG is probably the safest route in terms of structurally sound, efficient storage solutions. Those working from home need to think about the bigger picture – what storage/workspace will be needed in the future?
Appearance Really IS Everything
For those with careers whereby interaction with clients is profuse, the home office needs to be spotless, organised and present a clear message about that person and their branding. This includes the route from the front door to the office. Although meeting clients in the home may be avoided when possible (in favour of working lunches etc. where the facade of appearance is far easier to maintain), ensuring a clean, tailored working atmosphere on just such an occasion is highly recommended.
The efficient home office is all about boundaries, great use of space, the provision of resources and a reliable working atmosphere.
